5 medium apples; pared and cored
3 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
1 9-inch pie shell; unbaked
crumble topping
CRUMBLE TOPPING:
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground mace
4 tablespoons butter
Slice apples to make 5 cups. Sprinkle with lemon juice. Mix together sugar, flour, and lemon juice. Spoon into pastry shell.
Crumble topping: Mix dry ingredients, cut in butter to make coarse crumbs, sprinkle over apple mixture.
Bake in 400 degree oven for 45-50 minutes. Serve warm with cheese slices or ice cream.
